Career Pathways

The Study & Stay PEI Program works with a range of partners to deliver Career Pathway activities, that take place throughout the year at key stages in the program.

Professional Profile

Canada has it’s own work culture which makes it important to review resume and cover letter writing and what employers expect and how to present qualifications and work experience from outside of Canada. Training on interview techniques from professional HR consultants, guidance on how to pitch yourself at job fairs and networking events and support on how to promote yourself on LinkedIn are also provided.

Job Seeking

The Study & Stay PEI Program collaborates with online job sites such as WorkPEI and The Employment Journey to help international students improve their online job hunting skills. We connect international students with WorkSource Alliance and dedicated sector specialists to find relevant positions that are commensurate with the skills and qualification levels attained.

Career Planning

The labour market on PEI is relatively small so international students need to develop a strategy to find work in their chosen career. The Study & Stay PEI Program engages EnPoint a professional career consultancy, to work with international students to develop career goals and access the tools and resources required to reach them. Entrepreneur workshops, mentorship programs and workplace culture sessions are also offered.

PEI Business Networks

The Study & Stay PEI Program works with many partners to give international students opportunities to network. For example, the Community Navigators have links to companies across PEI, whilst PEI Connectors facilitate links with the Charlottetown Chamber of Commerce. The Construction Association of PEI, PEI BioAlliance and PEI IT Alliance are business associations and the PEI Public Service Commission handles public sector employment. The Study & Stay PEI program hosts dedicated networking sessions with specific business sectors to facilitate the interaction of international students with professionals in their chosen career field.

Island Business Tours.

International students rarely have the opportunity to explore job opportunities outside of Charlottetown and Summerside. The Study & Stay PEI program organises three bus tours visiting businesses across the island including Cavendish Farms, Aspin Kemp & Associates, Belfast Mini Mills and the PEI Preserve Company.

To graduate from the program, international students must participate in 4 mandatory events, complete the 6 stages of the Key Competences Framework and attend 4 elective activities. However, there is no limit to the number of activities international students can attend and there is no cost, all activities are free for Study & Stay PEI students.
